The playful fabrics and the stair step effect invite the viewer to imagine the many stair cases we have climbed in our lives.  Those of us who have walked the stairs up through the stone lions at the New  York Public Library will know what I mean.  Images of the Parthenon, Getty Museum and perhaps even a  Court House in your town, might cross your mind when we reflect upon the stairs that have been tread in our lives.  This quilt, titled, "Stairway to...," contains the possibilities of memories once shared, and new ones to look toward.

"Dancing Bears"

 "So, where are the Bears?", you might be asking yourself.  Well, they are right there on the first inner border!  OK, before you strain your eyes and mind trying to find the bears, let me tell you what happened at a Ricky Tims workshop at Quilt Camp in the Pines.  We were told that no rulers were allowed.  In fact, that was the only rule.  Toward the end of the workshop Ricky put on a new CD of his latest musical composition and decided to give us a quick demo on how to make 'dancing bears.'  At least that was what I was able to hear over the exotic music, mixed with the not so quiet murmurs of 25 plus participants.  I was busily creating my dancing bears when I heard my friends laughing out loud. I thought that I had missed a good joke. Well, it turns our I was the joke.  Ricky had called the technique 'dancing squares.'  The border shown in this quilt is my own variation, and will forever be called 'dancing bears', sorry Ricky!  This quilt was inspired by Karla Alexander- Thank You Ricky Tims, Karla  Alexander and Quilt Camp in the Pines.
